Self Awareness

On the latest episode (HERE) of Dharma Time, The Dharma Guy & The Dope Doctor talk about Self Disappointment.

Self awareness can also be thought of as self love or brutal honesty. Many times, we see ourselves as we want to be rather than how we are. Typically, it’s because we judge others by their actions and judge ourselves by our intent. Self awareness has more to do with truly addressing our inner thoughts or motivations. We put on our armor and approach the world in the hopes that they can’t see our pain, our weaknesses and our vulnerabilities. This then lulls us into a false sense of self, basically we believe our own lies.

Understand that we all have inner demons. We all struggle with insecurities and emotional “stuff”. These things don’t make us weak, it makes us human. True weakness lies in being defined and controlled by those things. Conversely, true strength comes from acknowledging those things and growing from them. We must be honest in who we are and how we’re perceived by those around us. Several times those things might be vastly different and that's ok.

It’s ok to not be who you thought you were. It’s just not ok to let that dictate your life. You can overcome those misperceptions and become whomever you want to be only after you accept your starting point, Do the inner work of asking why. Why do I do this, why don’t I do this, why do I think that etc. Pressing on past the superficial thoughts and getting to the roots will be paramount in self growth and ultimately self awareness. Self awareness is the key to that inner peace and happiness we’re all searching for.
